1958 Plymouth Savoy 4 door sedan with 318ci 4 barrel carb V8 (250 hp), dual exhaust, 3 speed at, pb, ps, 2 speed wipers/washer & radio with front & rear speakers. Found car in Spring Lake, NC in 1981. It was covered with light rust and had a 1966 NC inspection sticker. License plate chrome holder said Freeman Motors. Freeman Motors in Lumberton, NC just closed and had been in business since the 1930s. I believe this car was bought from Freeman Motors in Lumberton, NC which is only 50 miles south of Fayetteville and Spring Lake, NC. Mr. Parker, the owner, sold the car to me and I towed it home. The car was disassembled down to the body, which was left on the frame. Work stopped because of family needs, and stored until 2000. In 2000 I again began the process of restoring the 1958 Plymouth. First pulled off rear springs, removed the rust, painted & put them back on the car. Then came the under carriage; pulled gas tank, cleaned & repaired it & repaired the trunk floor as well as the passenger floor pans after the interior was taken out of the car. Next the front clip was removed & engine w transmission was removed. Engine & transmission were rebuilt, as was the front suspension. Body was bead-blasted to remove all the rust & sealer was then applied. Next the front suspension and brakes were rebuilt & engine and transmission put back into the car. The front clip was reassembled & put back on car. Finally, after all the body work was completed, the two tone paint went on: original colors - the body is Bluebonnet Blue (light) and roof and side trim are Midnight Blue (dark); the interior parts are Comet Blue. The bumpers were re-chromed & stainless was cleaned & polished, as were the aluminum grill and head light doors. This car has been a work in progress for many years (24) but was finally completed in the spring/summer of 2005. Since being completed the car has won a number of awards and trophies but the Sept 07 Plymouth Owners Club Golden Anniversary National Fall Meet in Concord NC was probably the highest honor. The car was awarded a third place in class award. Receiving an award at a national level meet and especially when competing against just Plymouths from around the country was a super big surprise.
